19 tahun lalu, Dwayne 'The Rock' membuat penampilan sulungnya sebagai pelakon, melakonkan watak Mathayus dalam filem The Mummy Returns, sebelum disusuli dengan penampilan sebagai pelakon utama filem The Scorpion King (2002) yang merupakan spin-off kepada filem The Mummy Returns. Kini, terdapat laporan menyatakan Universal Pictures dan Dwayne Johnson akan bekerjasama untuk menghasilkan filem reboot Scorpion King pula!
Filem reboot itu akan ditulis oleh Jonathan Herman, dengan Dwayne Johnson dan Universal Pictures bertindak sebagai penerbit filem tersebut. Walau bagaimanapun, jalan ceritanya masih belum didedahkan.
Menurut satu kenyataan yang dikeluarkan wakil Universal Pictures :
“The original Scorpion King was a crucial catalyst helping to catapult us into the world of film. To be able to now produce the next iteration as part of our Seven Bucks Productions slate is a special, full circle moment, a testament to what we have been fortunate enough to build for our audience and ultimately a humble reminder of the timeless value of authentic storytelling”.

Filem The Scorpion King (2002) berkisarkan watak Mathayus (lakonan Dwayne Johnson) dan mengambil latar 5,000 tahun sebelum kejadian dalam filem The Mummy Returns. Filem tersebut menampilkan watak berkenaan sebagai hero, sedangkan dalam filem The Mummy Returns, ianya ditampilkan sebagai watak jahat dan ganas yang digunakan oleh ahli sihir Imhotep untuk menghancurkan dunia.
